our story
Lunafae Devon Rex is a small, boutique breeding program based in Sydney, NSW, run by me, Kristie. I’m a mum to two children, along with our much-loved cats and a dog, and we live in Sydney’s northern districts. You’ll often find us at shows across Sydney, throughout regional New South Wales, and occasionally interstate, sharing our passion for this extraordinary breed.
My love for the Devon Rex began many years ago, when my aunt brought home a Devon named Daisy. There was something unforgettable about her—her personality, her look, her presence—and from that moment, the breed held a special place in my heart.
That passion became something much deeper in 2021. After losing my partner in 2020, I held onto a promise we had made together—to welcome a kitten into our lives and name her Heather Grace, after a sentimental stuffed toy I had given her during her illness. Determined to honour that promise, I began searching for a kitten who looked just like that little toy, right down to the distinctive odd eyes.
That search led me back to the Devon Rex.
When Heather Grace (Starseed Carina’s Gift) arrived in my arms on 18 December 2021, everything changed. She was tiny, soft, and full of personality—like a living teddy bear—and I was instantly, completely in love. Through Heather, I found not only companionship, but a sense of purpose and belonging.
I soon immersed myself in the cat show community, becoming a member of the NSW Cat Fanciers’ Association and attending shows regularly. What began as a way to connect grew into something much more—I found a welcoming, passionate community and a deeper appreciation for the Devon Rex breed.
In time, I became a registered breeder with the Association, with a strong focus on ethical, responsible breeding. In 2023, Captain and Boudicca joined our family as foundation cats, thanks to the support and trust of Bec at Starseed. I am incredibly grateful to have experienced mentors guiding me, helping ensure that every decision I make supports the health, temperament, and future of the breed.
At Lunafae, my goal is not simply to breed kittens, but to contribute thoughtfully to the Devon Rex’s ongoing development—always with care, intention, and respect for the breed. Giving back is also important to me, and I try to help organisations such as Burmese Rescue (who do more than Burmese!) and The Cat Sanctuary.
Lunafae Devon Rex has been built on love, loss, and a promise kept—and today, it continues with heart, community, and a genuine passion for these remarkable cats.
